It’s a very hot day and this Russian Ilyushin Il-76 Candid is full and ready for a 3000 kilometer trip. As it reaches the holding point, the pilots prepare this monster for a very long takeoff run. And boy, it’s gonna be a really long one… the plane takes off right at the end of the runway barely lifting its weight into the air giving traffic controllers quite a thrill.

Those Russians are freakin’ crazy, they just don’t give a shit. I’ve worked with them a few times in US Air Bases in Germany. I remember one day an Antinov landed where I was working with what was probably about a 2m hole in the cargo ramp. I wouldn’t have believed it unless I had drove up and saw it with my own eyes. The crew told us that it had happened shortly after take-off, and they weren’t sure what exactly happened. But since they were landing at a U.S. installation that they knew we’d fix it for them, so they decided to just continue the mission.
